Colossians 3:5
King James 2000 Bible (©2003)

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

In our lesson this week, God tells us how we ought to exercise our belief.  The key word here is “put off” which means to remove or to “mortify your members .”

1. If we are risen in Christ, then we must seek those things above.

2. We are to set our affections  above, and not on things in the earth.

3. If we are true believers, we ought to be dead to those things cited in Colossians 3:5, and we are to set our affections on things above.

The types, symbols and metaphors point to the spiritual kingdom. So, we must be careful with fornication, which is to act to gratify yourself or your members rather than focusing on things above.

God does give grace to exercise sexuality with limitations. Those limitations are:

1. With mutual understanding

2. With mutual commitment

There is a danger in exercising sexuality without adhering to those limitations.
